The National Association of Black Bookstores (NAB2) convened bookstore owners and industry leaders, and unveiled its inaugural State of the Black Bookstore Report and National Black-Owned Bookstore Directory.
Rosenwald School Discussion: Interracial, Interfaith
At its peak, the Rosenwald Schools educated nearly one in three Black children in the United States. Eugene Robinson, Pulitzer Prize–winning columnist and Rosenwald Schools alumnus, moderated a discussion on the schools.
We Must Not Educate A Child Against Their Own Language
Eating a foreign food, dressing like a toubab, speaking French like a Parisian become symbols of status or success. Meanwhile our languages are relegated to dialects or vernacular to deny them any scientific or vehicle capability. Our clothes and dresses are described as traditional, never modern.
Activities
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is in Dallas on March 6–8, and in Houston on March 10. The Jackie Wilson Story opened in Chicago on March 7 and runs until April 26. The Gay Harlem Renaissance closes in New York on March 8, and Colors of Culture: A Celebration of Black Creativity closes in Gary on March 13. Free Benjamin and Ayanna Gregory are in concert March 21.
