Fundraising Goals Exceeded

Oct 06 – Oct 19, 2022

peppermint soap

Abaraka. Jaraama. Thank You.

We have exceeded our 2022 Port of Harlem Gambian Education Partnership Fundraising goal by $91. We can now change the life of one additional Gambian student, forever.

Each of the 20 students will get: a uniform, shoes, lunch (for the year), exercise books, book rental, study fees, and a school bag. Each $80 donor will get a video thank you from the child(ren) they are sponsoring.

We even exceeded our fundraising goals for our Library fund and Overhead fund, too.  Most of our library funds will go to repairing the library after the flood and for shipping additional books. We already have donated, new and slightly used, books. Overhead funds pay for additional expenses such as money transfer fees and web maintenances expenses.

POHGEP is always preparing the installation of the “From These Shores” exhibit at the Juffureh Slavery Museum in Juffureh, North Bank, The Gambia. We will also install one of the panels in the coming days at Mansa Kunda (House of the King) restaurant in Takoma Park, Maryland.  The Gambian Restaurant has included this news on its webpage.

Later this year, we hope to have additional Gambia River Soap made by the women’s division of the Baobab Youth Development Association, which also administers the student sponsorship program. They make all-natural soap with Gambian and Senegalese (Senegambian) ingredients including cashew, ginger, mango, moringa, peppermint, and shea butter soap.

Nisey’s Boutique in Mt. Rainer, MD will sell the soap for only $4. If you are a Metro Washington or Metro Gary retailer interested in stocking the soap, send us a message.
