Just as the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission kicked off a year-long effort to educate Oklahomans and Americans about the Race Massacre, Oklahoma senator James Lankford made headlines after showing his ignorance.  At issue was the Republican’s support for twice impeached president Donald Trump’s effort to overturn the election he lost by questioning the vote in several states including Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

“Some people caught me and said, ‘Let me describe it to you this way’ — and they were spot on with this — ‘You hear the president say, Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania are problems. We hear the president say, Atlanta, Detroit, and Philadelphia are problems,’” wrote Lankford as he began to retract his support for the disgraced President’s effort.

However, the Black Wall Street Times reports that Lankford has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t believe systemic racism is an American problem. He also does not believe in reparations.  The NAACP graded Lankford with an “F,” after earning only 7 of 100 point for his legislative votes.

The projects of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission have begun to officially educate the Race Massacre.  And, while the Commission seeks reconciliation for the 1921 battle against Blacks, some are considering whether Blacks should be reconciling with Lankford today.
