Providence Hospital, in the nation’s capital, ceased all in-patient and emergency services as of April 30, 2019. However, Port Of Harlem contributor Theo Hodge, Jr. MD remains in the same office on the Providence campus. He will continue to remain there under a new non-profit, the Washington Health Institute, which opens May 1, 2019.

“There will be no need for my current patients to transfer their records from Providence to me. I will have access to them,” says Hodge. He clarified that those who got notices from Providence Hospital to have their records transferred to him can ignore the notice.

Providence says it’s changing its services to adapt “to the changing healthcare needs of our community.” Its Carroll Manor and primary care related services including geriatrics, outpatient behavioral health, and Police and Fire Clinic will remain open. Founded in 1861, Providence Hospital had been the longest continuously operating hospital in the District of Columbia.
