My brother Charles Washington, one year my junior, went to prison for attempted murder my first year at Bowdoin College. He finished his sentence, but as of this writing he is back in the system. It blows my mind that we are only one year apart and grew up in the same household yet ended up on such different paths.

The Children's Museum in Washington is featuring two of our favorite artists, Hampton Olfus, Jr., and Dorrian "Jay" Durrah, at an art opening reception on Sat, Feb 21, 2p–4:30p. Also in D.C., The Duke Ellington School of the Arts is having a Black History Program on the same evening. Under History, see info about the telling of Underground Railroad Stories in South Chicago, while Photography and the Black Arts Movement, 1955–1985, opens in Los Angeles, Tue, Feb 24.
