Educators Union Cut Ties with Anti–Defamation League
The three million–member National Education Association voted July 6 to cut ties with the Anti–Defamation League. Since unions typically do not decide on programming and curriculum in schools, the impact of the decisio is not clear.
Mamdani Wins in New York While Black Voters Flip the Switch in Jackson
In April, centrist state senator John Horhn, 70, defeated two–term self–described radical mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, 42, in the race for mayor of Jackson, Mississippi. In June, Democratic socialist state representative Zohran Mamdani, 33, won the Democratic mayoral primary in New York City with a 12–point lead over his chief rival, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, 67.
Midwest Underground Railroad on a Roll
New Philadelphia was the first town platted and registered by a Black man. Founders Frank and Lucy McWorter freed 16 members of their family and created this abolitionist town on the prairie in 1836.
