A Slightly Different Look at Colonialism and Slavery (Part I of II)
Francis Bisset Archer provides a roadway to the past in ”The Gambia Colony and Protectorate: An Official Handbook.” The book he wrote in 1906, along with that of explorer Mungo Park’s “Travels in the Interior of Africa,” helped POH publisher Wayne Young create a more balanced narrative on the Atlantic Slave Trade and provided historical context for contemporary issues facing Africans at home and abroad.
Has the Ban on Public Schools Begun?
Republican representatives in very conservative Indiana are sponsoring House Bill 1136. If passed, the bill would mandate the conversion of 68 public schools across Indiana into charter schools by July 1, 2028.
New Documentary on NAACP Leader Walter White and Others
In 1918, Walter White took a job at the NAACP’s headquarters in New York, where he was welcomed by the guide and prophet of the movement, W.E.B. Du Bois. Over time, their relationship would sour, giving rise to some of the ugliest conflicts in the organization’s history.

Ayiti From Quebec and New York: A Lineage of Film and Discussion through a Marxist Lens happens in New York on January 18. Romeo and Juliet opens in Nairobi on February 14.
