Our New Banner as We Approach 30

Feb 06 – Feb 19, 2025

fb banner

As Port of Harlem magazine approaches turning 30 in November, we updated our look with a new banner for our web and magazine pages. Ahmad M. Ceesay designed our new look in his Sukata, The Gambia studios. Unlike when we published our first issue in print 30 years ago, the internet allows us to be more PanAfrican in behavior with more contributors from around the African world, including Ceesay.

We also featured Ceesay in the story "Sulaymani Kante: Inventor of N'ko/Mandinka Alphabet." He is an ardent advocate for using the N'ko script instead of Latin to write in Mandinka, the dominant language of The Gambia.

The banner represents the ambition of Port of Harlem magazine to celebrate our achievements and to connect Africa and the Diaspora community in the Americas and across the globe,” says Ceesay. β€œThe Globe icon reinforces that message,” he continued.
