Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rates for Blacks rose from May to July from 6.0 percent to 7.2 percent. During the same time period, the unemployment for Whites dropped .1 percent,
for Asians it rose .3, and for Hispanics it dropped .1 percent.
From July 2024 to July 2025, the Black unemployment rate jumped from 6.3 to 7.2 percent. Black unemployment has reached its highest rate since the pandemic and could mean trouble for other major worker groups since Black are often the last hired and the first fired.
The Black unemployment rate has not seen its current level since October 2021, when it was 7.8%. The unemployment rate for Black workers reached its lowest level in U.S. history during the Biden administration at 5%.
