Audiences have often asked why YHWH put the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden and forbade Adam and Eve to eat from it. This is my interpretation of why and how it contradicts the notion of Christian Nationalism.
On days one through five, YHWH created everything humanity needed to flourish. In addition to providing the food, He also created two special trees: The Tree of Knowledge and The Tree of Life. On the sixth day, He formed the man, Adam, imbued with the spirit of free will, and then placed him in The Garden of Eden. At this time, He gave Adam instructions regarding The Tree of Knowledge.
He also gave Adam a free will option, warning him of dire consequences. "And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eat thereof thou shalt surely die." (Genesis 2:16-17)
Sometime after YHWH gave Adam those instructions, He lulled him to sleep and created the first woman, Eve, from Adam's side. Although He also imbued Eve with the free-will spirit, He did not warn her not to eat off the tree. Instead, He left it up to Adam to inform her, which Adam did.
Despite being warned, Eve was beguiled by the serpent and ate the fruit, hoping to become a god. According to scripture, Adam wasn't on the other side of the Garden but standing next to her. Yet, not only did he not stop Eve from eating, he partook of it himself.
YHWH didn't punish Eve for Adam's eating of the tree. He punished her for tempting Adam to do so. Adam's punishment was for his outright disobedience. YHWH did not force Adam and Eve to obey because He knows forced alliance is not true allegiance. Placing The Tree of Knowledge in the Garden allowed them to be obedient or disobedient.
In the Old Testament, YHWH never told the ancient Israelites to force the other nations to serve Him. He simply asked them to be the light to draw the other nations to Him. In Joshua 24:15, he even gave the ancient Israelites the option to choose: "And if it seems evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."
