Short $802.47: Our Priority is to the 19 Students who have K-12 Scholarships.

JAug 10 – Aug 23, 2023

After a grand start, we will miss our September 11 deadline to raise $2,460 for the Port of Harlem Gambian Education Partnership.  We are now short just $802.47.

Given our 21-year history, we know our readers will fill our coffers so that we can continue our programs on Africa’s Smiling Coast, The Gambia.

Our priority is to the 19 students who have K-12 scholarships. We are short 8 sponsors for the female students and 4 sponsors for the male students.  School starts September 25.

This year, your dollar goes further in The Gambia. Last year, for each dollar, we got 50 dalasi, the local currency.  This year, for each dollar we get 60 dalasi.

With a very generous $1,000 donation from Michael Ricks of Wyoming, we raised more than 40 percent of our goal of $2,460 - almost immediately. Then, with a donation of $90 from Donna Smith and $200 from Ronald Lewis, both of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth, we quickly turned the corner to see more than half of our goal.

With $35 from Ethel Rock of Washington, DC; $26.01 from Karrye Braxton of Los Angeles, $20 from Kenneth Fengins of Florence, South Carolina, $90 from Kenniss Henry of Washington, DC, $50 from Kenneth G. of Ghana, and $51.52 from Vance Davis and $55 from Marvin Tupper Jones, both also from Washington, DC - - we are still short.  No matter we you are, we need your today.

Thanks, Wayne

P.S. We also installed the newest permanent exhibit “From These Shores” at the Juffureh Slavery Museum. A bequest from Kevin Turner provided the funds.

P.S. School in The Gambia starts Monday, September 25.

donate, thank you
