Port of Harlem Exhibit Breaks Colonial Mode and Makes History
Hassoum Ceesay, Director General, National Centre for Arts and Culture in The Gambia, proclaimed, “This exhibit raises the museum’s standard to a new level.” The historic markers the exhibit crosses include Africanization, appearance, and internet presence. POHGEP created and donated the exhibit with funds bequeathed by POHGEP board member Kevin Turner, Esquire.
Living While White in The Gambia
Ironically, Blacks living in majority White countries often give Scotland native Sheona Murray the blues about her living in Africa.
Nevertheless, the unique racial dynamics of the Gambia are often lost on Blacks living abroad.
Three Black Inventors Among 16 Honored
The National Inventors Hall of Fame will induct 16 innovation pioneers whose inventions range from wheelchair technology to aromatase inhibitors as part of the 50th class of Inductees. Three of them are of African descent: Robert G. Bryant (pictured), Marjorie Stewart Joyner, and James A. Parsons Jr.
Children Africana Book Awards 2023 Winners Revealed
The Children Africana Book Awards were created by Africa Access and the Outreach Council of the African Studies Association to encourage the publication and use of accurate, balanced children's materials about Africa.
Activities
“From These Shores,” the exhibit created by the Port of Harlem Gambian Education Partnership is now open permanently at the Juffureh Slavery Museum in The Gambia and online. CR Gibbs delivers "Black Resistance in America: The Untold Story" March 14.
