The Port of Harlem Gambian Education Partnership released seven short videos, each about 60 seconds long, revealing its projects and Port of Harlem magazine reader funded achievements in The Gambia.

From These Shores Opening Ceremonies
The exhibit celebrates the accomplishments of known and lesser-known Africans in the diaspora across time and geography. The exhibit is now open permanently at the Juffureh Slavery Museum in The Gambia and online.
From These Shores – The Exhibit
In addition to calling the exhibit in the colonial language, English, the display is also titled in six local languages, Mandinka, Serer, Wollof, Jola, Aku, and Fula. The exhibit is also titled in French, the colonial language of neighboring sister-nation Senegal. “For the first time, the museum’s exhibit has been decolonized,” declared Hassoum Ceesay, Director General, National Centre for Arts and Culture in The Gambia.
A Road to Health
Buba Camara, president of the Baobab Youth Development Association (BYDA), says three people died during the rainy season because they could not get to the hospital. This is why we chose to concrete this road he explained. “This road goes to the hospital, connects people to the Latrikunda Market, and it floods,” he explained.
Phillis Wheatley Library
The 528+ book Phillis Wheatley library closed as the Baobab Youth Development Association (BYDA) renovated their new office and library space. The current library includes one book stand of books with a second stand on its way. It will also include an internet access service.
The Soap Project
We are elated to participate in the Baobab Youth Development Association’s soap making project. The soap is made with all natural ingredients: Gambian Beeswax, Honey, and Water. Plus, Lye (not present in the final product) and Senegalese Vegetable Oil.
