The Associated Press reported that U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden, who was appointed by former President Trump and is of European-descent, suggested that the January 6 rebels were being treated harsher than rioters in D.C. last year following the murder of George Floyd. During the sentencing, McFadden said that insurrectionist Danielle Doyle was “acting like all those looters and rioters last year.”
“The US Attorney's Office would have more credibility if it was even-handed in its concern about riots and mobs in the city," McFadden said, according to the news outlet.
McFadden’s empathy was in contrast to that of U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton who in the previous week told insurrectionist Anthony Mariotto that he’s “disgraced this country” after Mariotto pleaded guilty to parading in the Capitol. “To see someone destroy, or try to destroy, the Capitol is very troubling to me,” he continued. Walton, who was appointed by former President George W. Bush, is of African descent and a graduate of historically Black West Virginia State University.
