POH Gambian Education Partnership Exceeds Fundraising Goal

December 03 – December 16, 2020

awa bah

We had planned the 2020 fundraising campaign to last six weeks and end Tuesday, December 1, Giving Tuesday. However, thanks to you, our readers, we reached our goal in five weeks. We reached our annual goal of $3,580. And, we expect yet another check to add to our current total of $4,245 which is $665 beyond our goal.

We had 31 donors in this final 2020 campaign, ten (35 percent) of them men. Men also contributed 30 percent of the amount donated.

“Women are more likely to give than their male counterparts across generations, although Gen-X tends to be the exception,” reports The NonProfit Times. They based their report on research conducted by the Women’s Philanthropy Institute at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.

For this campaign, we used three electronic platforms, our own in combination with PayPal, GoFundMe, and Facebook. Donors also were able to contribute using traditional check and mail service.

Our own plus PayPal drew in 42 percent of the donations, followed by GoFund Me with 24 percent of the donations, Facebook brought in 24 of the donations and mailed in check brought in 10 cent percent of the donations.

Awa Bah, Vice President of the Baobab Youth Development Association, responded, “I am so touched with the level of response from these beautiful donors and their hearts. This will really go a long way in facilitating us to reach our education goals.”

New African Diaspora History Exhibition in the Making

You can help determine what the 25,000 people who visit the Juffureh Slavery Museum in the Gambia see, read, and learn about the African diaspora. The Port Of Harlem Gambian Education Partnership (POHGEP) is developing its second exhibition for the (Gambia) National Centre for Arts and Culture and accepting your comments, donations, and volunteer efforts for this additional project. Look for the details in the next issue of Port Of Harlem.
