Lynn Nottage, a two-time Pulitzer Prize and MacArthur Genius Award recipient, wrote the satirical tale that follows successful African-American publicist Undine, as she stumbles down the social ladder after her husband steals her hard-earned fortune. The two-hour production comes with one intermission and contains profanity, drug use, and sexual content.

Arena Stage kicks off the 2019/20 season with a free Community Day and Props Sale Saturday, August 24, from 1p to 6p. Woolly Mammoth opens season number 40 Monday, September 9 with “Fairview.” The play “is a game-changing original work about race,” says artistic director Maria Manuela Goyanes. In this 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama winner, Beverly insists the celebration for Grandma’s birthday be perfect. But her husband is useless, her sister is into the wine, and her daughter’s secrets are threatening to derail the day. Meanwhile a group of spectators has put them all under surveillance. The voyeurs launch an invasion on the festivities, forcing the family to battle for their very identities.
