The Society of the First African Families of English America (SOFAFEA) is presenting its “10–10 Program,” ten days leading up their historic America 250 Luncheon, Black Tie and Summit on May 1–May 2, 2026, and ten weeks leading into our nation’s official America 250 commemoration. SOFAFEA is a nonprofit lineage and educational organization founded in 2019 that connects descendants of Africans who lived in English America before March 5, 1770.

Through curated programming, storytelling, and community dialogue, the 10–10 Program serves as both a countdown and a call to action. SOFAFEA designed the program to inspire education, remembrance, and participation—highlighting the enduring legacy of African American families whose roots trace back to the colonial era and whose contributions helped shape the nation from its earliest days.  Look for  highlights of their program on their public Facebook pages.

Port Of Harlem Gambian Education Partnership (POHGEP) with Ric Murphy of SOFAFEA proudly asks everyone to actively affirm a shared commitment—join us in ensuring that the full American story is told.  POHGEP points to the “West Africans in Early America” exhibit it created for the Juffureh Slavery Museum in The Gambia. Nine panels at the UNESCO site present the history of nine Senegambian men and women who contributed to the development of the United States of America.
