Philly Paper Says Gentrification Made DC Crime Drop

While others may think it, the Philadelphia Inquirer made it clear in “How D.C. Saw a Drop in Homicides,” that the city’s demographic change is causing the city’s crime rate to drop.   In the Sunday, January 14 edition, it reported:

More than most cities, Washington is gentrifying.  Property values, even in neighborhoods considered marginal, have risen dramatically, forcing out some members of the criminal element.  At the same time, the influx of higher-income homeowners has bred less tolerance for crime, police say.
