Washington’s leading Black weekly, The Afro American, is moving from its 14th Street, NW location to 1917 Benning Road, NE. As the 14th Street, NW corridor regentrified, the staple in the Black community moved from a ground level location to the second floor. - - now to Benning Road.

The Afro had been a part of the 14th Street neighborhood for about 11years. It was leasing the property, but will buy the Benning Rd building. Much of the Benning Road community has yet to see signs of redevelopment. The staff of the Afro will hold a “House Opening,” Thursday, September 21 from 1p to 4p at its new Benning Road, NE location.
