The historic 1972
National Black Political Convention that took place in Gary will have a follow-up,
but it will focus on economic freedom. Former Lt. Governor of
Colorado George Brown, former Gary mayor Richard
Hatcher and Washington, D.C.-based Coalition of Black Trade Unionist
President William Lucy are the cohairs. Economist Dr.
Julianne Malveaux is one of several advisors to the convention.
In 1972,
delegates were selected to participate in the convention. This
year, anyone who pays the
$175 registration fee can be part of it, organizers said.
