The California chapter of the NAACP is
supporting the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act, AB
19. The pending legislation would allow gay and lesbian couples
in the state of California to marry. (The U.S. Supreme Court
overturned laws against interracial marriage in the case Loving v
Virginia in 1967. At the time of the ruling the law was in
effect
in 16 states.)
However,
nationwide, Blacks are not in favor of same-sex marriage.
In a nationwide poll of 800 African-Americans conducted for Black America’s
Political Action Committee (BAMPAC), about 7 in 10 do not think
same-sex marriages should be legal.
