Giving Tuesday is Tuesday, November 27 and the Port Of Harlem Gambian Education Partnership is participating in this year’s campaign. Our goal is to raise at least $310, or the amount we have left to raise to reach our 2018 goal of $3,370. However, we welcome the prospects of raising additional funds.

PayPal processes our donations and they have pledged to add 1% to every donation you make from November 27 through December 31. As a non-profit, PayPal charges us only 2.2% plus $0.30per transaction.

Our accounts for Reclaiming a Life, Male Scholarships, and General Overhead remain short. We use funds from our General Overhead account to fund various unexpected and miscellaneous activities including the $192 needed to ship 22 boxes of gently used text books to Latrikunda Lower/Upper Basic School in Latrikunda Sabiji. We unexpectedly received the donated books that are worth about $5,000. The $192 was an unexpected expense we needed to complete this project.

Port Of Harlem magazine remains free. The funds you share do not benefit the magazine, but benefits the more than 7,000 people POHGEP directly impacts in the Gambia, one of the most economically challenged countries in the world. POHGEP is a 501c charity. Your deduction is tax deductible.

Geography Now! has an interesting video on The Gambia, which is also the smallest country on the African continent.
